Ascension is seeking a Manager of Clinical Ethics to join the team in our Illinois Ministry Market. This position will be a partially remote position with expectations to reside within the Illinois Ministry market, with capability to travel locally for on-site consultations and meetings and to be on-site within the Market for approximately 75% of the time.
What You Will Do
As the Manager of Clinical Ethics, you will have responsibility for supporting the implementation and operations of the Ethics programming (responsive services, education and integration) throughout the clinical care setting, with a focus on leading the clinical consultation services. The Manager of Clinical Ethics also participates with all of the other Ethicists within Ascension as a fully engaged member in the Ethics Advisory Community to develop systematic approaches, processes, policies, resources, and content for ministry decision support, ethics education, consultation and integration into the organization’s clinical processes that can be scaled and spread across Ascension. Specific job responsibilities include:
- Provide subject matter expertise in clinical ethics consultation, including but not limited to the interpretation and application of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services (ERDs), to support multidisciplinary care teams, patients, and families in addressing ethical dimensions of patient care.
- Lead, coordinate and support the operations of the Ethics Integration Committees, including but not limited to maintaining appropriate leadership and membership and providing education to build members’ competencies to identify and escalate ethics consults to local Ethics leadership.
- Develop and provide clinical ethics-related education for providers, staff, and associates to further equip them to navigate ethical decision-making and to reinforce an ethical culture of care, the ERDs and Ascension’s Catholic ministry identity.
- Assist and support Mission Integration initiatives specific to ethics programing within the health ministry as directed by the Chief Mission Integration Officer (CMIO) relative to health ministry specific needs, including but not limited to policy review and development, formation, and representing Mission Integration and Ethics on organizational committees and workgroups.
- Continue the development of one’s own professional skills and competencies relative to the role of Manager of Clinical Ethics Integration, as appropriate.
