The Center was founded in 2000 and houses an endowed chair, employs three full-time ethicists and a support staff, stewards multiple funded lectureships, and offers pioneering ethics education for clinicians and health care leaders at a faith-based, mission-driven community health care system. Performing several hundred consults a year across an integrated delivery system ranging from tertiary care medical centers with a heart transplantation program to critical access hospitals and across multiple lines of business (acute care, primary care, subspecialty care, and in-home care such as home health and hospice), the Center is fully integrated clinically while robustly embedded institutionally offering organizational ethics consultation and research ethics support (e.g., multiple IRB panels).
