Provides strategic and operational leadership in planning, developing, directing and evaluating organizational efforts to integrate the Mercy mission and values and our Catholic identity into the decisions and activities of the leadership and into the day-to-day operations of the people serving in the Mercy health ministry
- Serves in a leadership capacity with senior management in facilitating the understanding and application of the Mercy mission and values into organizational decisions, practices and activities. Participates in senior management decision making to promote the Mercy mission and values as an integral part of the organizations culture, strategic planning, policies, programs and practices
- Collaborates to integrate the Mercy mission, values and charism in substantive and measurable ways with:- clinicians and caregivers to shape how patients experience caregiving in the delivery of healthcare;- department leaders and human resources to shape how co-workers experience the worklife through the assessing, hiring, training, engaging, and evaluating of co-workers;- community leaders and organizations in furthering the organizations partnering role in community health activities- business strategies to evaluate the initiation and sustaining of collaborative relationships with other healthcare providers- Provides formation in meaningful and measurable ways and in a variety of formats to board members, executives, leaders, integrated and aligned physicians, and co-workers in all Mercy sites of care to help them identify their work as ministry and integrate the Mercy mission, values and charism into their decisions and day-to-day work- Understands and facilitates the application of the Catholic moral tradition and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services to clinical issues and to operational issues of management, finance, human resources and networking- Understands and facilitates the application of the Catholic social tradition to foster right relationships throughout the organization and the community and to promote special care for people who are poor and underserved- Creates and oversees the activities of mission teams and mission extenders (formation, charity functions, heritage celebrations and religious rituals) in the hospital(s), outpatient settings and physician offices- Creates and oversees the activities of mission teams and mission extenders (formation, charity functions, heritage celebrations and religious rituals) in the hospital(s), outpatient settings and physician offices- Coordinates the effective implementation of pastoral care services and supports efforts to develop quality measures and addressing the spiritual needs of those served by Mercy in all venues of care- Works collaboratively to assure the effective implementation of palliative care services across the continuum of care- Assists in the development of methodologies to assess community needs and in the determination of the community benefits provided by the organization to address those needs- Interviews and assesses candidates for leadership positions for their Mercy fit; provides or facilitates the inclusion of formation for individual leader personal development plans with measurable outcomes- Facilitates efforts to develop substantive spirituality in the workplace practices based on Mercys heritage, mission, values, and charism- Articulates the relationship of Mercy to the broader Catholic Church, fosters a collegial relationship with the diocesan bishop and with other clergy and diocesan leaders as needed, and understands and applies needed aspects of Canon Law to appropriate issues- Maintains strong relations with the local Sisters of Mercy, and assures thorough and ongoing communication between the Sisters and the health ministry leadership- Participates in facilitating Mercys advocacy efforts by promoting the development and articulation of Mercys position and by facilitating lobbying initiatives on the part of leadership and staff on particular legislative issues which address the needs of people who are poor and underserved - Conducts and facilitates meaningful celebrations that focus on mission and values as an essential part of the organization.
Experience: Five years healthcare experience; senior management leadership preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge with ability to communicate and apply the knowledge in the following areas:
- Catholic theology, ecclesiology, ministry, and those aspects of canon law pertinent to healthcare
- Personal and organizational spirituality
- Clinical, business, and organizational ethics, and social justice
- Organizational dynamics, i.e., adult learning, group process, organizational culture, change management, healthcare management and financing, and collaboration.
Required Education: Masters degree in theology with a specialization in mission services, or a commitment to work toward this degree, is required. Masters degree in theology or ethics is acceptable.
