As Fontbonne University prepares to celebrate our hundredth year of providing a values-based, transformative education to students in the St. Louis region, we are serving our region by beginning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Fontbonne has an immediate opening for a Director of Nursing to launch this exciting program. This is a 12-month position with a faculty appointment; depending on credentials and experience this position could be non-tenure track or tenure-track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
Fontbonne’s program has already received initial approval from the Missouri State Board of Nursing (pending a successful site visit in summer 2022), has secured approval from the Higher Learning Commission, and has submitted an initial application for CCNE accreditation. The Director will lead all aspects of the program, including implementing the established curriculum, developing policies and procedures consistent with nursing standards, hiring faculty, and finalizing clinical relationships. The Director will possess and demonstrate expertise and commitment to implementation of a standardized curriculum design based on integration of current nursing education knowledge and evidence as well as the predicted competencies required of newly licensed nurses. The Director is also accountable for collaborating and sharing best practice in the development of standardized student policies including recruitment, admissions, satisfactory academic progress and counseling services.
The nursing program is located in a renovated section of Anheuser-Busch Hall on our beautiful Clayton campus and includes state-of-the-art simulation labs currently under construction.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Implementation of curriculum and an assessment program to monitor and improve student learning
integrating lab and simulation experiences into the curriculum
establishing and maintaining clinical partnerships with area hospital and care facilities appropriate for program outcomes
successful site visit by the State Board of Nursing and implementation of the fall 2022 class
ongoing oversight of the nursing program
development of student-centered teaching/learning strategies
obtaining national accreditation for the program

Required Qualifications & Skills:
Current, active licensure to practice professional nursing in Missouri; the candidate’s license to practice professional nursing has never been disciplined in any jurisdiction
Master's Degree in Nursing with graduate preparation relevant to the administration of nursing education programs
Managerial skills and characteristics of a transformational leader
Knowledgeable in educational programs for health care practitioners, health care trends, health care policy, internal and external resources, current theories in nursing education, management, leadership, nursing practice and nursing research.
Academically and experientially qualified and maintains expertise in area of responsibility
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, self-direction and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Experience in comprehensive university setting
Teaching experience in an accredited nursing program and/or experience in clinical nursing education/administration
Doctorate in nursing (a terminal degree is required for a tenure-track appointment)
